Friend connections among members of the World Pulse online community are illustrated in this map, where line intensity represents the number of connections between two countries. The process of creating the map involved exporting data out of MySQL, converting connections to great-circle routes, formatting data as GeoJSON, and designing the visualization in Mapbox and Tilemill.

The creation and design of this map were inspired by the Visualizing Friendships map published by Facebook.
